The Permanent Flame is a block that cannot be crafted by the player and does not appear normally in the world. The permanent flame turns nearby flammable blocks into a basic flame. Air which is both nearby a permanent flame and a flammable block will randomly turn into basic flames. See Category:Flammable for a list of flammable blocks. Notably, Chests and locked chests will not burn.
The player can put out the permanent flame by punching it. Also, Water near a Permanent Flame extinguishes the Permanent Flame. Other than the basic flame, the permanent flame does not disappear automatically after some time has passed. Also, they do not emit a burning sound like basic flames do.
