River Water is a liquid block that can be placed by the player by using a bucket (or in creative mode).
River Water is similar to Water, the differences are color, river water is not renewable and it has a flowing range of only up to 2 blocks, as opposed to 8 blocks. River water does also not have a waving animation, unlike water.
It occours in the form of rivers in the “valleys” map generator. This block is not generated in any other map generator. Most of these rivers have a riverbed made of sand, but in tundra biomes the riverbed is made of gravel.
Renewing
The renewability of river water is a bit unusual. As a liquid, river water counts as non-renewable; the method described in Liquid#Creation of liquid sources does not renew river water.
However, as a resource, river water is renewable. Here's how: Find two river water source blocks next to each other, then use an empty bucket on one of the river water source blocks. It will not be removed, although you get a river water bucket. Now you can create an unlimited amount of river water.
